課程目標:
The goal of this course is to give students the opportunity to put into practice—in the context of faith—the “basics” of the English language that they learned in their primary and/or secondary education. It aims to provide a space for them to develop their basic skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through the use of familiar themes related to the faith. More specifically, this course aims:

  1. To help students improve their vocabulary and reading comprehension through the daily readings provided (e.g., parables, short Bible passages, and other catechetical materials).
  2. To encourage them to speak with confidence during oral exercises.
  3. To practice their ability to listen to, and understand, conversations (through the use of media resources, such as video clips).
  4. To improve their ability to write an organized paragraph.

從羅馬帝國承認基督宗教以來,拉丁文成為教會正式的也是最普遍的語言。所有的文件無論法律或禮儀書、大公或地區的會議規定、神學或神修的書都是用拉丁文寫的。假如要做學術程度的研究,參考第一手資料源泉,那麼認識拉丁文是必須的條件。拉丁文為學神學較常用的一些現代語言也很有幫助。

我們所認識的新約書都是以希臘文寫的。本課程就是要針對它們而不是學一般的希臘文。由於範圍很具體且有限度所以短時間可以得到良好的效果:認識基本的文法和最常用的詞彙。用功讀書的學生上完本課後應該有能力懂比較簡單或熟習的經文(例如福音)還有了解學術性的文件對原文細節所作的討論。

眾所周知,舊約聖經(希伯來聖經)主要是以希伯來文寫成,這一古老的閃族語言更因在二十世紀成為重建之以色列國的官方語言(現代希伯來語),而為大眾所熟悉。語言是溝通的工具及傳遞信息的符號,同時也如同一個窗口,讓人得以窺見其身後的豐富意涵。透過學習聖經希伯來語,可以對舊約中的重要概念(例如:盟約,法律,智慧,先知,默西亞,等等)有更深刻的了解。

本課程除了帶領學生學習聖經希伯來語基礎語法,同時也教導學生學會使用現代工具,可以輕鬆自在的「查」原文聖經。

課程目標:
Through regular and active participation in the various assignments and activities of this course, students will:

  1. strengthen general English language skills;
  2. acquire familiarity with theological vocabulary;
  3. develop skills and strategies for using English- language resources in theological study and research.

課程介紹:

  1. This course is designed for students who already have basic proficiency in English and who desire to use English-language resources in theological study or research.
  2. English-language theological resources are plentiful and readily available, offering important and enriching opportunities for expanding theological vision.
  3. Theology, however, has its own special vocabulary and ways of communicating about religious experience which transcend ordinary language. Thus general language studies do not necessarily prepare students adequately for theological studies.
  4. This course will focus on developing reading skills and strategies, with emphasis on sources (e.g., Church documents, catechism, etc.) and vocabulary useful for theological study, as well as for pastoral research.
